Located at 1446 Washington Ave. in San Leandro, this large trash enclosure was once covered in plants and ivy. Over the years, it became an attractive nuisance for pests such as rats, mice, and insects. In 2024, the city removed the ivy, leaving behind a vine-scarred wall.

In early 2025, Downtown San Leandro put together a proposal to beautify the enclosure. With funding from the San Leandro Arts, Culture & Library Commission and Downtown San Leandro, I was commissioned to paint a 450 square foot mural to improve the look of the wall and give it new life.

I chose to create a mural that pulled from the local wildlife in San Leandro. As this was going into a parking lot, I wanted to create something vibrant and bursting with color that also represented some of the nearby natural spaces, such as the San Leandro Creek and parks.
